Find a Migraine-Friendly Doctor in Canada

Looking for a doctor who understands migraine and takes it seriously? The Canadian Migraine Society’s Compassionate Doctors List is a free list of healthcare providers across Canada, recommended by people living with migraine for being both knowledgeable and compassionate about the disease.

What’s on the list

The list includes neurologists, headache specialists, family doctors, nurse practitioners and other specialists who treat migraine. It's organized by province and city, and covers British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Every name comes from our members’ own experiences.

Why it matters

Not all doctors are created equal. When a doctor dismisses or disregards your disease, it makes living with migraine that much harder. If you aren’t getting the care you need, you deserve a doctor who listens. Don’t wait to start getting treatment.

How to use the list

  • Family doctors and nurse practitioners: Call the clinic to ask whether they are accepting new patients.

  • Neurologists and headache specialists: In Canada, you’ll usually need a referral from a family doctor, nurse practitioner or walk-in clinic. Take the name from this list to your appointment and ask for a referral to that specialist.

  • Be prepared for wait times. Specialist waits can be long, so ask to be placed on the list early.

  • Bring notes to your first visit: How many migraine days you have a month, what you’ve tried, and how migraine affects your work and daily life.
